That other thing

July 5, 2012

Wonbe used to work on a nearby farm.

One day while crossing a clear stream of water she suddenly saw a beautiful precious stone lying there. She picked it up and kept it in her bag. After sometime she saw a man, sitting under a tree. He looked very weak and tired. “You look weak. Do you want to eat something”, she asked. “Yes please, thank you. I have not eaten anything since yesterday”. She sat down near him and opened her bag to give him a loaf of bread. As she was taking out the bread his eyes fell on the big precious stone. He had never seen such a large precious stone. “This one stone would buy me lifetime of happiness”, he thought. He told Wonbe to give him that precious stone. She gave it along with the bread. He took it and ran away. She got up and walked away.

After a few days Wonbe was visited by the same man. She greeted him, “Yes, what do you want?”. He gave her back the precious stone and said, “Please give me the thing that made you give me this stone so easily.”

I just met a woman like the one in this story. She is technically homeless, although she has a roof over her head today. She has very few possession, I spent 5 days on and off with her watching her share her food without fear of where she might get her next meal, and I watched her give ”gems” to others as well, without worry if she would have another ”gem” to replace it. And she did with joy. She has a true belief that the Universe will provide what she needs as she needs it. I learned a lot about myself from her…some of it was quite sobering. Thank you for putting it in black and white for me…I want what she has. xo
