What a Red Indian has to say?

In the post, A Story of Creation, we talked about the wisdom that the Indigenous tribes carry with them. Here, let us read what a wise (otherwise) old indigenous native (rightfully) american has to say –

We were told – we would see America come and go. And we can see America is dying (from within, from inside) – Because they forgot the instructions on how to live on Earth. It is our belief that if you are not spiritually connected to the earth and understand the spiritual reality on how to live on earth, it’s likely that you will not make it.

When Columbus came here, we termed it as First World War – because along with him came everyone else from Europe. By the end of Second World War, only 800,000 of us were left. From 60 million to 800,000! We Indians were almost exterminated here from America.

Everything is spiritual, everything has spirit. Everything was brought here by the creator. Some people call him God, some Allah, some Messiah. We call him Konkashika (Grand-father). We are here, in this world only for a few winters, and then we go to spirit world. The spirit world is more real than most of us believe. It is everything.

Over 90% of our body is water and in order to stay healthy we drink good water. When European, Columbus first came here, we still would be drinking water from all the rivers, from any stream and any river, all the water was pure. If the Europeans had lived the Indian way, we would still have been drinking the same water. Water is sacred – Air is sacred. We have common destiny with the trees, air and water. We breathe out the air taken in by the trees and they breathe out the air taken in by us. We are all from the Earth and when Earth, Air, Water is corrupted then it will create its own reactions. Mother starts reacting. They say the storms and the floods will become greater and stronger.

To me it is not a negative thing to know that there will be great changes. It is evolution. It’s time. Nothing remains the same.

One has to feel the connection, connection to Earth. For this, you should learn how to plant something. That is the first connection. You should treat everything as spirits, realize that we are one family, the trees, animals and birds are relatives. No tree grows by itself. Certain plants will grow around the tree. Certain medicines will grow around the plants. When you destroy the tree, you destroy the community. The whole community – that thrives on it, depend on it gets destroyed. You destroy the medicine for people and for animals. Yes, animals use medicine. They know and we learn from animals, we learnt by watching the animals, which medicine to use. And if you replant the tree you do not replant the community, you replant the tree. And if you cut the forest, which is what is happening in America, in Canada and many places around the world then you are a very destructive force.  And I would repeat simply replanting the tree is not replanting the community. You have to understand that.

We need to be responsible. I don’t think that in United States constitution they have a bill of responsibilities as they have the bill of rights. And I think that is very important, people talk about their rights not responsibility all the time. Leaders should have that responsibility. They have to take into consideration the 7 generations.

Out of the hundred largest economic units today, 49 are Countries and 51 are Corporations. Now, if you digest that for a second. What does that mean! It means that corporations are the driving force of decision making today. And Corporations are not concerned with human rights, human life; they are not even concerned with proper wage that people who are working for them get. So what kinds of decisions are going to be made on our behalf by this economic power? The Corporate states as I call them – there is going to be hell to pay as they say for some of the things that are going on now. So I think people need to become aware, and they need to be awake. They need to become of one mind. They need to challenge the values that are being shoved at them today because otherwise this will become a consumer society, a society driven by economics and not common sense, pure economics.

“But do all people have capability to use their common sense?”

We are born with common sense. You are born with it. You just need to value it, see it. I remember an incident when I was a boy. Some of us had done something wrong and we were sitting in front of the chief of tribe. And we were talking about who was the leader. The chief said that it is not a good idea to follow somebody blindly. You would not jump off the cliff if your leader jumps right. And then he said – Everyone should be their own leader. Do the thinking for yourself.

Today we are bound together by electronics, by technology and the world has become a market. And this is market we have to deal with. There are two problems I see. Firstly we think we have boundless resources. Secondly we use the word resources. We forget that when we talk about the resources, we talk about our relatives, our family (trees, plants, animals the whole ecosystem). And that they are not boundless.

Fish is our family, not resource. It requires all the respect.

The structure of the world is that it follows natural law. It follows the process of Regeneration. The process of regeneration is endless, if everyone follows the law – only if you follow the law. If you challenge the law then regeneration would fail and then there will be no mercy, because again it’s just a law.

The Earth is all powerful. It was not made for human beings. We just happen to be here. If it comes to where humans destroy themselves, the Earth’s not going to end. It will live. Just that human will not survive. Interesting concept! The earth will regenerate, will re-green, only there will be no people. As now you are coming to finish, and still all are speeding on your horses. There is a wall right in front of you. But you are not pulling your horses. You are not. In fact you are only accelerating. That’s where I see use of resources, boundless resources. You are using them faster than they are reproducing. And you are heading towards this wall right ahead of you.

So there was this man I was talking to. He said, “We understand your concept. We agree to it and there is no denying. You are wise. But we cannot do anything about it. We can’t pull our horses.” “And why not”, I asked. “We have to show profits! As CEOs, we have to show profits. If we do not show profits we would be fired.” I asked to whom. He says, “To you, to shareholders”. I asked – “Do you have children”. He said yes. “Do you have children grandchildren?” He said, “Yes two of them”. I asked him – “Tell me, when do you cease to be a CEO and be a grandfather?” He did not have an answer. No one did.

There was a lot of silence there – because that was a moral question. And if you do not have a moral question in your process then your process would not survive. That is the governing law. You must have a moral society, or you would not have any. That is what we have to get back to.

All servants imported and brought into the Country… who were not Christians in their native Country… shall be accounted and be slaves. All Negro, mulatto and Indian slaves within this dominion…. shall be held to be real estate. If any slave resists his master… correcting such slave, and shall happen to be killed in such correction… the master shall be free of all punishment… as if such accident never happened.” – Virginia General Assembly declaration, 1705.
